A much stronger album than many give it credit, On every street has some wonderful songs and has been a quiet pleasure of mine since I discovered it.īut as you already like Dire Straits, I'd say buy them all. On every street I didn't even know that this 1991 album existed until 18 months ago - even though it had hit #1 on the New Zealand charts, as I later discovered. Initially great, several people I know found that the attractions of this album diminished over time. Love over gold was used by Philips to help introduce the new CD format!īrothers in arms Probably their best selling album, this contains the big hit Money for nothing. I've always thought that the opening track, Telegraph Road was very "American" while Industrial disease is very British. Five songs over 43 minutes may sound a recipe for disaster, but it works well. Love over goldA different approach from Knopfler, stretching out some songs and adding keyboards. This is one of my favourites, simply because of my age when it came out and its place in my life, but not as strong an album as the first.

Some very strong songs (expecially side one of the vinyl: Tunnel of love, Romeo and Juliet, Skateaway). Making movies "Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat" was how one review described this album compared to Communique. I guess that spendinging all your time on the road, couple with record company pressure for a follow up, can do that to a songwriter. Many Straits fans will argue that this is their best album.Ĭommunique A big let down when it came out and, to my mind, their least inspired album. This album is full of great songs which still stand up today. Based on traditional blues-based rock, the album appealed to those who found a lot of rock music bloated and couldn't find much to appeal in the UK punk scene. Here in New Zealand it was different: they were huge from the beginning. The picture is taken from probably one of the best preserved VHS tapes available and the sound is taken from the best sounding audio soundboard bootleg (Perfect Investigations), except for the songs Tunnel of Love, Solid rock and Going Home but which still have good sound.I understand that Dire Starits didn't really break in the USA until they had released several albums. Picture and sound quality are both very good. Nice to see the two guestplayers Nils Lofgren and Hank B. Great show of the Brothers in arms tour, containing powerful versions.
